White mulberry cultivation

Deciduous tree up to 20 meters in height. It has a wide crown. The bark of an adult plant is thick brown-gray, while the bark of young trees is brighter, from reddish to gray-green.

Green leaves change color to straw-yellow by fall. Blossoms in April and May. Mulberry is unpretentious, can be grown at home and is therefore ideal for growing bonsai.

Growing mulberry from seed is not difficult. Composition of soil: 70% peat + 30% river sand. Moisten the soil, sow the seeds, lightly sprinkling them with substrate, cover with foil and subjected to three months of stratification in the refrigerator. After that, germinate in the light at room temperature. The first shoots appear from two to six weeks.

Artificial heat is not required, growing in diffused sunlight, but tolerates a brief exposure to direct rays. Silkworm requires plenty of water. Watering and irrigation require attention — watering on hot days twice a day. The surface of the ground after watering was wet and then dried out until the next watering. Do not allow it to dry out.
After the appearance of 2–3 leaves on the sprouts, they are pickled in separate pots. During flowering, spraying is not carried out.

Repotting is carried out annually in the spring. The tree is cut about a third of the root mass and planted in a larger container with good drainage.
Silkworm grows well in light sandy soils.
