Miniature trees are limited in their choice of nutrition by the space of the container, so you should understand and follow the important rules of feeding these plants for normal life.
Theory. Most important nutrients are nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K).

Nitrogen affects the growth of branches, needles, and leaves, phosphorus is necessary for root growth and bud development, potassium - for photosynthesis, flowering, fruiting, and preparing for the resting period.
In addition to the basic element’s plants need in small quantities and other elements - copper, manganese, zinc, boron, cobalt, etc.
These substances can be obtained by bonsai in the form of fertilizers: organic and mineral, complex and special, liquid and granular. Each type of fertilizer and the way it is applied has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, in order not to kill the plant and ensure optimal growth conditions, it is important to study the questions: when, to whom, what, how much and how.

There are no universal recommendations and advices - much in bonsai nutrition depends on the environment (soil, light, temperature, humidity, time of year), genetics (type, species, variety) and individual characteristics (age, weight of root and above-ground parts).

General tips when choosing fertilizers for bonsai:

• organic is preferred;
• choose a balanced complex fertilizer of composition (N-P-K);
• do not use a universal fertilizer;
• granular fertilizers work gradually, decomposing with watering;
• liquid fertilizers work immediately, give fast growth and possibility of burning the roots;
• color of needles and leaves show what to add or remove from nutrition;
• do not use growth stimulants - increasing the size of leaves or needles;
• do not fertilize in periods of stress (after replanting, root or branch pruning);
• do not feed during illness and dormancy;
• it is better to give less than more.
